How do you teach the story of Texas?
Texas history is too large to fit in a single book. In fact, it takes a series of middle school social studies ebooks and print books to encompass the complex geography, diverse peoples, and variety of industries found in Texas—from prehistoric times to the present day. I enjoyed employing my design skills to capture and communicate the colorful history of Texas.
Tejano
Mexican, American, Texan
People of Mexican descent, called Tejanos, are among the most important people to shape Texas history and culture. Along with their music, art, literature, and food, they have contributed their traditions, hard work, determination, and pride. They hold a lasting place of honor in the history of Texas, and they continue to shape it today.
Discover West Texas
The mountainous, dry landscape of West Texas is different from the green forests, grasslands, and crystal blue waters found in the rest of the state—making West Texas a place of unique, rugged beauty. Home to two national parks and six state parks, West Texas is the least populated area within the state of Texas.
Texas Growing State
Throughout Texas’s history, various groups of people have come to the region to live and work. Expanding industries, such as cattle, railroads, and oil refineries, brought entrepreneurs and people eagerly seeking work. All have contributed to the culture and traditions of Texas. This book explores how different groups of people have called Texas home.
Six Flags of Texas
Texas has a history that is different from all the other U.S. states. Some states started as colonies. Other states were initially territories. Unlike other states, Texas was ruled by six different nations. Students will learn the history of Texas and the six flags that flew over it in this fact-filled book.
Texas Regions
The second biggest state in the United States, Texas is as diverse as many countries. Geographers divide the state into four regions based on the different climates, land forms, and resources. Texas has mountains, deserts, beaches, prairies, forests, beaches, and big cities. The state’s diversity is not just in the people and the industries, but in it’s land and geography, as well.

Big and Small
The 2016 Texas Almanac lists 1,216 cities within the state of Texas. Some are big, some are small, and each one is a community. The word Texas means “friendship” in the language of Caddo Natives. To many Texans, friendship is the feeling of community people get from living there.
Modern Cities of Texas
The three largest cities in Texas, Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston, reached their current importance in the local and national economy due to the growth of modern transportation. Learn how trains, then cars and airplanes, connected these cities to the rest of the world and helped them grow.
